Our Dyke Histories
History Podcast · Updated Weekly · Come for the history; stay for the revolution, gossip, and desire that built it. 🤌 About Us :: Decade by decade, Our Dyke Histories dives deep into the living, breathing past and present of lesbian, …

After a knee replacement and being in the least pain I've been in in a decade--crip solidarity to all my disabled peeps out there--I have finally been able to dive back into editing and producing ODH. We have a bang up season ahead with the most epic set of guests. First, I'm dropping our new poster here because I'm so utterly proud of our brilliant social media manager, Audrey Wilkinson. The full list of typed guests is below.

Tomorrow we'll launch with the fabulous Lucas Hildebrand, author of the 2023 The Bars Are Ours: Histories and Cultures of Gay Bars in America,1960 and After. We'll especially talk about how the early years of the AIDS crisis– because AIDS is always a crisis--shaped not only queer archives, history, and lives but queer dance floors and nightlught and even the gay cities that lgbtq folks most often publicly call home. And we'll not be able to help ourselves because it's long overdue to discuss lesbian cruising. Huzzah!

It is legitimately the first national U.S. history of lgbtq, lesbian, gay, and queer bars. I know! How did it take until 2023 to get that history?

This is why we need a long history of dyke bars* too. Yes, and that's why I'm writing one. 😏 While Lucas' beefy cover below leans into an image of gay boys a la YMCA-style, it truly is an inter-gender, critical, and gossipy romp that I can't recommend enough. And! It's so cool that it's even being sold in art museums.
